The weather hasn't been too good for painting recently but a couple of us have made a good start on the tender frames.
It gets dark early now which reduces the time we can work but one side was looking good when we finished for the day. It will look even better when we re-fit the springs.
This was the scene as fifty years accumulated rust and grime were blasted away !
As the work went on, the difference between the 'before and after' surfaces became quite startling - the grey area is actually bare metal.
Thanks to the expertise of Emsley Crane Hire and the Moveright International team we managed to collect our LNER tender from Balby Yard. Special thanks are also due to Stuart Barlow and Gavin Livermore for their invaluable assistance.
The task of reassembling the tender was made more difficult due to high winds but as you will see from the photos, the various parts are now looking much more like Mr. Gresley intended. The rolling unit will now be delivered to the Mizens Railway Thursday 18th April.
Thanks once again to everyone who very generously contributed time, money or material towards saving the tender, we could not have done it without you.
